Monthly Workshops with Tim Regan

Workshop tuition can be paid at the door, but spaces are available on a first come, first serve basis. Notice of student cancellations must be provided 24 hours in advance of scheduled time or the fee is non-refundable. Emergency cancellations (snow, etc.) will be sent out by email and posted on this page only in the event that class is canceled.

In the Saturday 10/13 11:30-1:30 pm Tai Chi workshop, participants will learn the foundational "Raise Hands," "Grasp Sparrow’s Tail," "Push-up," and "Pull-back" movements that build postural support and relaxed strength. We will explore how these exercises work therapeutically in the context of Traditional Chinese Medicine to stimulate circulation, strengthen joints, and benefit digestion. Sensitivity and self-assessment will be reinforced through gentle, cooperative "Push Hands” exercises. Appropriate for all levels of experience, including beginners.

In the Saturday 10/13 2:00-4:00 pm Tai Chi workshop, participants will learn the complete second section of the Yang Family Tai Chi Long Form, through five short routines including two that focus on kicks. We will explore how the exercises of the second section further open the joints and channels to develop circulation, flexibility, strength, balance and coordination. Appropriate for students with some prior experience.

In the Saturday 10/27 11:30-1:30 pm Qigong workshop, participants will learn exercises for Lung Function, including Tiger Play Qigong and self-massage. As understood by Traditional Chinese Medicine, these exercises also benefit the upper limb, nose, sinuses, many skin problems, and complaints that worsen with the dry autumn weather. Appropriate for all levels of experience, including beginners.

In the Saturday 10/27 2:00-4:00 pm Qigong workshop, participants will deepen their understanding of breathing exercises and Lung Function through the Six Character Recipe, self-assessment and simple Tuina bodywork with a partner to assist relaxation and circulation. Appropriate for all levels of experience, including beginners.

In the Saturday 11/17 11:30-1:30 pm Tai Chi workshop, participants will learn the "Squeeze-through," "Press-down," and "Level Hands Trace Fish" exercises that help consolidate strength. We will explore how these exercises work therapeutically in the context of Traditional Chinese Medicine to stimulate circulation, benefit digestion, and strengthen the consistution. Sensitivity and self-assessment will be reinforced through gentle, cooperative "Push Hands” exercises. Appropriate for all levels of experience, including beginners.

In the Saturday 11/17 2:00-4:00 pm Bagua workshop, participants will learn fundamental training methods including variations on the foundation Circle-walk meditation as well as the Single-change and Double-change Palms that loosen and strengthen muscles and joints, improve circulation, promote balance, coordination and relaxed concentration. Appropriate for all levels of experience, including beginners.

In the Saturday 12/01 11:30-1:30 pm Tai Chi workshop, participants will learn the "Single Whip," "Raise Hands," "Pluck," and "Lean-in" exercises that help build "oblique" strength and coordination. We will explore how these exercises work therapeutically in the context of Traditional Chinese Medicine to stimulate circulation, deepen the breath, and relieve tension. Sensitivity and self-assessment will be reinforced through gentle, cooperative "Push Hands” exercises. Appropriate for all levels of experience, particularly beginners.

Tuina Bodywork: see our 10/27 Qigong workshop above

Tuina is a system of soft tissue manipulation that follows the principles of both Traditional Chinese Medicine and Chinese martial arts. It offers a vigorous and comprehensive method for treating sports injuries and postural imbalances. In this session, we will learn the fundamental body mechanics, hand techniques and back treatments that address common aches, strains and pains.
